Tokyo Disney Resort Closes Due to Coronavirus
As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak continues to spread, the situation in Japan has worsened, and the Oriental Land Company has given us some sad news today.
Oriental Land Co, the operator of Tokyo Disney Resorts theme parks, has closed their parks for two weeks in an effort to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The Tokyo Disney Resort comprises two theme parks (Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea), four Disney hotels, six non-Disney hotels and a shopping complex. Opened in 1983, Tokyo Disneyland was the first Disney theme park launched outside the United States.
Oriental Land Co. which operates the parks, said it hopes to reopen Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea on March 16. Oriental Land pays licensing fees to Walt Disney Co. but has no other capital relationship with the entertainment giant.
Disney has already shut two of its Chinese theme parks located in Hong Kong and Shanghai back in late January over coronavirus precautions. Oriental Land said it made the decision to comply with a request by the Japanese government to cancel or delay public events for the next two weeks.
On Thursday, Japan ordered all schools to be closed until the end of March.

Both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will be closed from February 29th through March 15th. This is the first closure of the resort since Typhoon Hagibis last year, and the first long-term closure since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.
