Cincinnati’s Coney Island To Become Water Park Only

Coney Island will be shutting down it’s rides in order shift its focus into enhancing its water park experience for guests.

Coney Island officials announced Monday that Coney Island will now focus on enhancing its water park area, which they said is what a majority of guests come to the park to enjoy.

Officials have said that the presence of the amusement park rides forced the park to split it’s resources between the rides and the waterpark. With the rides gone, the park will be able to initiate a multi-phase expansion of the historic waterpark.

The last day for guests to enjoy the amusement park rides before the rides are removed is Sept. 21 during the annual Fire Up the Night event.

This is not the first time the park has closed down their rides. In 1971, the park closed down their rides in order to move north to Kings Island. The Sunlite Pool complex remained open, allowing for the eventual addition of family oriented rides.

Update (9/13/19): The Cincinnati Circus Company have bought the Racing Rockets and Turtle Parade rides. They’ll be rented out for events starting in 2020.
