Kentucky Kingdom Lifeguards Earn Platinum International Aquatic Safety Award
The team of more than 200 lifeguards at Kentucky Kingdom’s Hurricane Bay water park recently received the 2018 Platinum International Aquatic Safety Award. The award, given by Jeff Ellis & Associates Inc., an internationally renowned aquatic safety and risk management consulting firm, recognizes Kentucky Kingdom’s lifeguards for achieving the “highest quality of lifeguard professionalism and operational standards.”

All of Kentucky Kingdom’s lifeguards are trained in Ellis & Associates’ rigorous and wide-ranging program, which covers state-of-the-art rescue techniques, first aid, CPR, use of the Automated External Defibrillator, and emergency administration of oxygen. Upon completion of their training, they must pass both written and hands-on tests to receive their final certification. During Hurricane Bay’s operating season, Ellis & Associates conducts a number of unannounced audits of the lifeguard staff to ensure they are performing to the firm’s high standards.
Lesly Birkner, Chief of Operations at Kentucky Kingdom, said, “We are very honored to receive Ellis & Associates’ highest distinction, the Platinum Award, and so proud of our lifeguards. This award reflects their commitment to Kentucky Kingdom’s top priority, which is the safety of our guests.”
