Kennywood Teases New Attraction While Construction Is Happening Around Park
Rumors have been swirling about a new roller coaster coming to Kennywood since the removal of the Log Jammer last off-season.
Although no official announcement has been made confirming a new coaster, the park has released their first teaser for the “Project 412” expansion in the form of a lottery scratch off. The tease consists of 9 squares with a question mark in the center along with a text box stating “404” in the lower right hand corner. The background of the tease looks to be of galvanized steel. The name of the project is “Project 412” which is a direct reference to the area code of the greater Pittsburgh metropolitan region.
Kennywood stated that each Thursday, a new square will be scratched, revealing more and more details about the new attraction until all squares are revealed. From the construction, footers, and markers in the park, we are speculating this will be a new coaster. So far, the number 197 was revealed, which could stand for the maximum height, number of pieces, number of columns, number of footers, etc… Regardless of which it is, this new addition will surely add to the world class rides and attractions found in the classic park.
It’s no secret there’s a massive amount of construction going on around the park. Some of the old pavilions by the Log Jammer have been relocated to the plot of land within the Phantom’s Revenge’s old queue / structure. But the big focus is what’s going on in and around the historic lagoon in the center of the park. Rebar from cast footers can be seen running along the Northeast side of the lagoon, markers around the carousel and between Kiddieland / Star Concessions. Here’s a video showing the current construction.
So, of course after gathering all that info and data we have to speculate a bit. According to where the footers are in the lagoon, and the data we calculated from all the stakes, we created a mock-up course the new coaster could take. *Note* this is just our speculation of the course it will travel, the track itself could still vary with different hills, loops, etc.

Later this year, Kennywood will debut Thomas Town, a new family area in addition to the already iconic kids area. This is the largest single year attraction in the parks history. We took a closer look at the progress inside this new area.
The all new Thomas Town is scheduled to open this Summer. More on that addition can be found by clicking here.
