Skywheel Rolls into Cincinnati’s Coney Island for Limited Time

Cincinnati’s Coney Island plans to wow guests with the largest mobile Ferris Wheel of its kind in North America!

The Skywheel, North America’s largest mobile Ferris Wheel, will run adjacent to Sunlight Water Adventure for six weeks at Coney Island from May 26th until July 8th – taking guests 155 feet in the air in one of 36 gondolas!

Each ride will consist of four revolutions that last close to 10 minutes long providing a memorable view of Coney Island, the Ohio River and beyond.

Operations manager, Steve Edwards said, the new wheel will give guests an incredible view of the Ohio River, the concerts, the race track, and more. At night it will be lit up with a half-million LED lights!

The skywheel is four times the size of Coney’s existing Ferris Wheel and the tallest attraction in the park’s history. However, few know that it is not the tallest planned attraction in Coney Island history. Prior to the opening of Kings Island, the iconic Eiffel Tower was originally planned for Coney Island, before it was decided to be built at the new King’s Island instead.

It’ll take a dozen workers to unload 12 tractor-trailers and assemble 500 big wheel pieces in three days to construct the ride. The electrical cable alone stretches 6 miles!

Coney Island is scheduled to re-open for the 2018 season on May 19th. The cost to ride the Skywheel will be $5. The cost is reduced to $2.50 for passholders. For tickets and more information, visit the official Coney Island website here.
