New Roller Coaster Coming To Silver Dollar City
There have been rumors circling for months that Silver Dollar City will be adding a new roller coaster since they began clearing land back in May of 2016. While we don’t know what the exact track layout will be, it’s rumored to have controlled spinning cars and inversions.
Back at the IAAPA attractions expo in November, Mack Rides showed off a design for a spinning launch coaster like Cobra’s Curse, but with inversions. This is pretty much a shoe-in for he coaster being built. Check out the design below!
Mack confirmed that three of their Launched Extreme Spinning Coasters have been purchased so far, but they never released exactly which parks bought them. If this design goes to Silver Dollar City, that means it’ll be the first of three Launched Extreme Spinning Coasters currently under contract with Mack Rides. There is currently still no information in regards to the placement of the other two yet.
Then, on December 2, 2016, Herschend Family Entertainment (the company that owns Silver Dollar City) filed a trademark for the name “Time Traveler“. Although not officially announced by the park, we suspect this will be the name used for their new coaster.
So what’s the theme? Last year, Silver Dollar City sent out a survey to their guests that pitched the following three random concepts of coaster themes:
1. The first theme isn’t true time travel, but seems a bit more like a roadside attraction of time travel where guests are invited in to test the time machine, “take a spin“, and be “launched back in time” to the Roman Empire, which is “suspiciously handcrafted“. Looks like you were “taken for a ride” with “no refunds”.

2. The second has guests traveling through the mysterious lost “silver caves” of the Ozarks. A mine cart will take guests on a wild ride through caverns, past old digging equipment, and more.

3. The third has guests testing their skills on the rodeo circuit. There, you will climb aboard a bucking bull themed ride that spins, twists, bucks, and even drops, to try and shake you from a bull’s back!
What’s interesting is that all three of the proposed concepts demonstrates a large tower structure with track running under the roof of the tower, followed by a steep drop. This element reminds us of verbolten at Busch Gardens Virginia. (which is a very fun drop!)
Of the three themes pitched in the survey, the name “Time Traveler” seems to fit from concept 1 and might give us a big hint to the actual theming for the new coaster.
The project seems to far behind to be completed in time for the 2017 season, leading us to believe it’ll most likely debut for 2018. Do you think we’ll be seeing Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City? Share your thoughts via our social channels!
