VALRAVN: New Roller Coaster at Cedar Point Breaks 10 World Records

Cedar Point has changed the Lake Erie skyline once again with over 3,400 feet of thrill ride innovation! The parks newest roller coaster called VALRAVN, has taken its first flights to select media (Good Morning America TV Show) breaking 10 world records!

Riders on Valravn are carried more than 20 stories up to the top of the coaster’s 223-foot-tall first hill. Once there, the train is held perilously over the edge of the first drop for approximately four seconds, giving anxious guests unparalleled views of the park before free-falling a record 214 feet at a completely vertical, 90-degree angle, reaching a top speed of 75 mph!

Valravn then flips its passengers upside-down through a 165-foot-tall Immelmann, a fighter jet-like maneuver that takes the train into a half loop, then a half roll before traveling in the opposite direction. The train then approaches another drop zone, but there’s no stopping this time as riders plunge 125 feet down at a near-90-degree angle once again, twisting and turning upside-down two more times, once through a dive loop and then through a 270-degree roll before completing its epic journey over 3,415 feet of tarnished copper and silver steel track!

VALRAVN is officially the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster in the world which has some epic stats, claiming 10 world records for the scream machine and helping parent company Cedar Fair to stay on top of the latest coaster trend.

Over the winter, Cedar Point used a drone to show off the new coaster from all angles. Even if you have already seen it, it’s a very cool video worth watching again!

So what is this Valravn theme we speak of? Well, Valravn is the regal king of birds, swooping in to conquer all other dive coasters on the planet with its powerful and intense maneuvers, massive structure and immense ride vehicles. Valravn is the parks 18^th coaster to take reign at The Roller Coaster Capital of the World and has claimed its rightful place among other record-breaking roller coasters at Cedar Point.

Valravn is also the signature 100^th roller coaster designed by the imaginative coaster minds at Bolliger & Mabillard in Monthey, Switzerland, and will feature ride vehicles never before seen on a dive coaster. Riders will sit eight-across on one of three, 24-passenger floorless trains, featuring tiered seating as well as comfortable over-the-shoulder restraints with interlocking seatbelts, much like those on the park’s GateKeeper wing coaster.

Valravn can accommodate approximately 1,200 riders per hour and guests must be 52 inches or taller to ride. Below is the bran-new entrance queue for the record breaking dive machine!

A roller coaster isn’t the only thing that is new for 2016 at Cedar Point. There’s a plethora of changes including a newly renovated marina entrance, a new restaurant, and an exclusive ride warriors club! Each year Cedar Point changes out their entrance sign with a backdrop of their new ride for the season. VALRAVN is all set!

As we mentioned, the park installed a new Marina Entrance which sits underneath their record breaking coaster. The old marina entrance was in the way while building Valravn, so they took the opportunity to rebuild it. It matches the landscaping around Valravn and fits in very nice in this section of the park for a clean and pristine look.

And that’s not all!! The park, and city officials recently struck a deal with Jet Express operators to bring back the ferry boat service! Starting June 12, guests will be able to travel via the Jet Express from downtown Sandusky to Cedar Point for $5.00. (children 6-12 pay $2.50).

During this initial year, there will be stops between Downtown Sandusky and Cedar Point at Kelley’s Island and Put-in-Bay. Next year, boat operators say they will have more time to plan and offer direct trips with no stops.

The wait is almost over for Valravn’s official world debut! Valravn opens to the public Saturday morning, May 7, 2016 at 10:00am. The park will be open Saturday May 7 and Sunday May 8, then close until the following Friday. Beginning on May 13, the park will be open seven days a week through-out the summer.

Can’t wait for opening day? Cedar Point is offering a limited number of tickets for the LeBron James Family Foundation First Rider Benefit on May 5. Tickets are $75 for seats and front row seats are $500. Expensive, but to some, it’s all about the donations! All proceeds benefit the LeBron James Family Foundation. Valravn will be the only ride open during the benefit. If interested, fans can purchase their ‘first rider’ tickets here.
