Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Announces Birth Of Baby Orangutan
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo announced the birth of a Bornean Orangutan, the first successful orangutan birth at the zoo since 2014 and the fifth since the RainForest opened in 1992.

The baby boy was born to mother Kera Wak on April 28. He joins father Tiram, sister Merah, and another orangutan, Kayla at the Zoo.
The Zoo is asking for help to name the new baby. They’re asking people to pick their favorite name, by donating money to their favorite name. The choices are:
• Rimba, meaning jungle • Zaki, meaning pure
• Halim, meaning gentle
The name that receives the most donations by June 8 will win. You can cast your vote here and donations will go toward protecting orangutans in the wild.

Bornean orangutans are listed as critically endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. Over the past 60 years, their population has declined by more than 50% and their habitat has been reduced by at least 55% of the past 20 years according to the World Wildlife Fund.
