Here’s a Rougarou Update from Cedar Point! – Roller Coaster Capital of the World!
It’s Finally Spring 2015!!! [No matter what the weather says]. The BEAST, known as Rougarou, will be unleashed at Cedar Point in just 5 weeks!! The transformation of the Mantis roller coaster into the swamp werewolf that will be a floorless ride will be met with a highly anticipated debut to his new fans. Behind the scenes, Cedar Point has been putting the finishing touches on their new look toy and will be all set for opening day on May 9th! Believe it or not, this is the first floorless coaster that the Point has ever had in their collection. When we first reported to you that Cedar Point was making the change, we noted the drop hill goes down from 145 feet, it will make 180, 360 degree turns, have a 119 foot tall vertical loop and you will be inches above water!!
All this talk about roller coasters is making my mouth water; but that’s beside point at hand. Certainly, you’ll be seeing this coaster on the Travel Channel when they do their seasonal showcase of some of the baddest scream machines around the world. It will also bolster the amount of riders that take a spin on the wild swamp side with this ride versus the reception that Mantis got during it’s nearly 20 seasons in operation. NOW, time for some Rougarou update fun!
“That’s what we’re all about; Is giving you rides on the world’s best roller coasters”.
That’s what Cedar Point GM Jason McClure says in the latest & final Rougarou Files video below (which was posted to C.P.’s YouTube channel this week). This is going to be another hit from the Bolliger & Mabillard team, which is an industry leader and the Cedar Fair go to Coaster Developer. The BEAST feeds on screams and Cedar Point feeds on Riderships. It’ll be a nice addition to the collection of coasters that they’ve assembled and you can’t help but wonder what other coasters will they revamp to refresh the coaster scene for coaster freaks. We all know about the rumored Dive Coaster that’s possibly coming next season. If that dive coaster turns out to be true, then it would give new life to current coasters could be an on-going trend during seasons without new coaster construction.

Another Cool nugget of Rougarou Mania this past week came from Tony Clark, Cedar Point Director of Communications, tweeting out a Rougarou Coin! Want one? The souvenir coin, shown below, will be given away as part of a contest he’s holding to the tweeter who guesses which coaster will have the first track test-run of the season. The guesses must be tweeted to Tony using the hashtag #CoasterWakeup; it’ll certainly be a cool way to usher in the new era of the ride and the 2015 season. These coins are waaaaay better that than the penny press machines you see out and about theme parks and malls [no offense]; I bet you can confirm the authenticity of it by biting on the edge…….
Cedar Point isn’t alone in their upgrade of current rides that have operated for many years. Knott’s Berry Farm has done the same with their Calico Mine Ride, in addition to their fantastic dark ride Voyage to the Iron Reef. If you’ve been under a rock lately, then you haven’t heard of Carowinds’ ferocious new coaster, Fury 325 that’s had everyone buzzing [the ride is based after a swarm of hornets, so pun intended] and has helped the park build excitement and intrigue with current guests.
Kings Island is also adding new rides and shops this year (check out their new additions here), which are available to watch with a front row seat via webcams posted on their website. Both KI & CP are getting the Sweet Spot Candy Shop added their parks as well [Now my mouth is watering again].
So, 2015 is chock full of new excitement and new experiences at the Parks. Rougarou will have 3 trains for the ride to ensure the lines keep moving to take a spin over the swamp. We leave with a Rougarou POV video of just what you’ll be in for at The Point!
