ZDT’s Amusement Park To Permanently Close After 18 Seasons

After nearly two decades of thrills, splashes, and family memories, ZDT’s Amusement Park in Seguin, Texas, will officially close its gates for good on August 17, 2025.

The announcement, made via the park’s website and social media pages, marks the end of an era for the family-owned destination that has become a staple of the San Antonio metro area.

The park encourages guests to visit one final time before its last day of operation and urges those holding unused tickets or gift cards to redeem them before the closure date.

Founded in 2007 by Danny and Sarah Donhauser, ZDT’s quickly earned a loyal following for its small-town charm and inventive attractions. While the park offered a variety of family-friendly rides and indoor activities, it achieved national recognition in 2015 with the debut of Switchback — the world’s first modern wooden shuttle coaster.

Designed by The Gravity Group, the groundbreaking ride was hailed for its intense airtime, 104-degree overbanked turn, dramatic Grand Spike, and the rare experience of traveling the track both forward and backward.

The fate of Switchback became a hot topic among coaster fans in late 2024, when it was quietly listed for sale by Gravity Group at the IAAPA Expo in Orlando. The listing served as the first public sign that ZDT’s future was in question. Soon after, speculation grew that the Donhausers were planning retirement, and while many hoped the park might be sold to new operators, it now appears the decision has been made to close entirely.

ZDT’s closure will be felt across the Texas theme park landscape, especially among enthusiasts who appreciated its innovative spirit and close-knit family atmosphere. As the countdown to the final day begins, fans are expected to visit for one last ride on Switchback as a final farewell to one of the state’s most unique amusement parks.

No official plans have been shared yet regarding the sale or relocation of the park’s rides, including Switchback, but updates are likely to emerge as the 2025 season winds down.
