Work Begins On Disney Cruise Line’s Global Dream Ship
Recent developments, as reported by Seatrade Cruise News, confirms there are now 400 workers available to complete the Disney Global Dream cruise ship. The Global Dream vessel that Disney acquired from Genting Hong Kong is now docked at the MV Werften Wismar facility, marking the commencement of its conversion into a ship destined for Disney Cruise Line.

Amidst the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the original owner of the colossal cruise ship, Genting Hong Kong, faced bankruptcy. This unfortunate circumstance led to the ship being left incomplete, lacking a company to complete its construction.
Disney Cruise Line later acquired the partially constructed vessel, which has been sitting vacant until now. Work on the vessels transformation into a Disney Cruise Ship has begun. Disney is poised to introduce the enchantment of a Disney Cruise Line vacation to new and diverse global destinations. The ship will showcase inventive Disney experiences, coupled with captivating entertainment, exceptional dining, and the renowned guest service that sets Disney Cruise Line in a league of its own.
Under a memorandum of understanding, Disney Cruise Line and Singapore Tourism Board agreed to collaborate to homeport the ship exclusively in Singapore for at least five years. Anticipated to embark on its maiden voyage in 2025, (likely delayed until 2026), the ship will accommodate around 6,000 passengers, a reduction from its original design for 9,000. Distinguished by its utilization of green methanol, one of the most eco-friendly fuels, the vessel named “Global Dream” is poised to be at the forefront of environmentally conscious sea travel. A renaming is expected, likely adhering to the nomenclature of other Disney Cruise Line ships, such as Disney Magic, Disney Wish, and Disney Dream.
Following the completion of the Disney Wish, plans were set in motion for the addition of two more ships to the fleet. Disney Cruise Line divulged that the subsequent vessel, known as the Disney Treasure, is scheduled for a 2024 inaugural voyage. An unnamed seventh ship is also slated to join the ranks. As a result, the “Global Dream” will secure its place as the eighth member of the Disney Cruise Line’s esteemed fleet.
Notably, Meyer Werft, the shipyard responsible for crafting the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish, is also behind the development of this new vessel.
More details about the maiden voyage, itineraries, and onboard experiences will be announced at a later date.
