Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic Figure Coming to the Carousel of Progress
On July 17, 1955, Walt Disney unveiled Disneyland to the world, changing the course of entertainment forever. His bold vision and passion for innovation have continued to shape Disney Parks for nearly 70 years, inspiring generations with creativity and imagination.
That same spirit of progress is about to be showcased in a new way at Magic Kingdom. During the “Creating the Happiest Place on Earth” panel at Destination D23, Walt Disney Imagineer Chris Beatty revealed that guests will soon be able to experience Walt Disney himself brought to life through the magic of Audio-Animatronics inside Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.

The introduction of a new Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney in Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress marks an exciting milestone in our shared mission to celebrate the story of the man behind the magic and inspire new generations with his innovations and vision for the future,” said Kirsten Komoroske, Executive Director of the Walt Disney Family Museum. “We appreciate the continued efforts and meticulous care that Imagineering has taken to keep Walt’s legacy alive.”
The Carousel of Progress was Walt’s own creation from concept to completion. Originally introduced at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, the attraction became an instant hit, delighting millions of visitors before making its permanent home in Magic Kingdom in 1975. With more performances than any other stage show in American theater history, it remains a timeless tribute to progress and innovation.
Soon, before audiences follow the story of an American family across four generations of technological change, they’ll be welcomed by a brand-new introductory scene featuring none other than Walt Disney himself. This addition will honor the visionary who famously believed in a “great big beautiful tomorrow” and never stood in the way of progress.
Additional details are still under wraps, including how John, Sarah, and the rest of the family will be featured in the updated version of the attraction. Disney Imagineers have emphasized that the heart of the Carousel of Progress will remain intact while evolving the show for a new generation of fans.
