Thrill Seekers Take A Frosty Plunge At Six Flags America’s Polar Coaster Challenge

Six Flags America’s Polar Coaster Challenge might have been even crazier than the parks Halloween coffin challenge.

Located between Baltimore and Washington DC, Six Flags America hosted a frigid event dubbed “The Polar Coaster Challenge”. Named after the meteorological term for dramatically fluctuating temperatures expected for this winter, the event challenged guests to ride the Wild One wooden roller coaster in BATHING SUITS OR TANK TOPS AND SHORTS FOR ONE HOUR! On December 7th, in 44 degree temps, roller coaster enthusiasts and Six Flags super fans traveled far and wide to accept and conqueror the challenge!

The Polar Coaster Challenge was part of Holiday in the Park – Six Flags’ annual festival that transforms the theme park into a winter wonderland with more than a million glittering lights, festive foods and holiday entertainment.

Select nights now through January 1, guests can enjoy the year’s biggest and best holiday celebration with millions of glittering lights, dazzling holiday entertainment, delicious seasonal treats, visits with Santa and thrilling coasters and family rides!

“This year is our biggest and best Holiday in the Park ever, with more dazzling lights, new holiday-themed entertainment, delicious, new sweet treats and more rides to experience like the all-new Firebird featuring a thrilling ball of fire to help keep you warm,” said Park President Rick Howarth. “The season’s brightest thrills and priceless family memories will be made at Holiday in the Park.”

Santa and Mrs. Claus greet kids and families and take fun photos. Delight in glorious new sweet holiday treats such as S’mores Sweet Potato Fries (Sweet Potato Waffle Fries drizzled with chocolate and marshmallow and finished with graham cracker crumbs) and Fried Gingerbread cookies or roast s’mores to perfection over wood burning fire pits. And, watch these new holiday themed shows:

  • Saving Christmas – Stunt Show: After discovering that the Abominable Snowman stole the Nice list from the North Pole, Santa sends his elves on a secret mission.
  • Dancing through the Holidays – Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen: A song and dance show that offers something for the entire family. From traditional holiday favorites to classic kids Christmas tunes, guests of all ages will enjoy this show.

Returning for 2019 in the spirit of the season and back by popular demand with more daily showings is Behold, the Messiah at the Grand Theatre and each day at Circle Stage at 5:00 p.m., join Santa in a countdown to lighting a 27-foot tall tree. Song and dance routines from the entire LOONEY TUNES and of course SNOW caps off the ceremony!

Guests can also enjoy their favorite thrilling roller coasters, rides and attractions including Flying Carousel, Voo Doo Drop, Cyclone, Carousel and more. Children can experience pint-sized thrills in LOONEY TUNES Movie Town while coaster fans can challenge world-class rides like Wild One, ROAR, Mind Eraser and Ragin Cajun, weather permitting.
