Six Flags America (Baltimore DC) to Permanently Close After 2025 Season
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced today that it will permanently close Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie, Maryland, following the 2025 operating season. The decision marks a major shift in the company’s long-term strategy and portfolio optimization efforts.

The 500-acre property will be marketed for redevelopment, with Six Flags tapping CBRE, a global leader in commercial real estate services, to handle the sale. According to the company, the move aligns with its efforts to maximize the value of its assets.
“As part of our comprehensive review of our park portfolio, we have determined that Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor are not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan, said Richard A. Zimmerman, President and CEO of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. After reviewing a number of options, we believe that marketing the property for redevelopment will generate the highest value and return on investment.”
Zimmerman emphasized that while the decision was difficult, it reflects the company’s commitment to reshaping its future. “We recognize the impact it will have on our Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor park associates and guests”, he added. “We are grateful to our park associates who work hard to create lifelong memories for our guests, and Six Flags is committed to supporting all impacted associates through the closure process at the end of this year.“
For many longtime fans, the closure echoes the fate of Geauga Lake—another beloved park that was phased out by Cedar Fair and ultimately shuttered in favor of redevelopment, leaving a lasting sting among amusement park enthusiasts. Only this time, they gave fans advance notice.

The park’s final day of operation is scheduled for Sunday, November 2, 2025. While the closure is significant for the region, the company noted that it is not expected to have a material impact on Six Flags’ financial results for 2025.
All 2025 season passes and tickets will remain valid throughout the park’s final season, which will serve as a farewell celebration of the decades of thrills and family fun the park has delivered to the Maryland community.

Six Flags America currently employs about 70 full-time associates. The company stated that severance packages and other benefits will be offered to eligible staff.
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation operates 27 amusement parks, 15 water parks, and nine resort properties across North America. With a focus on immersive, themed experiences tied to major intellectual properties such as Looney Tunes, DC Comics, and Peanuts, the company continues to evolve its offerings to align with broader growth initiatives.
