Pittsburgh Amusement Parks Earn Top Marks for 9th Straight Year
Representatives from Kennywood Park and Idlewild & SoakZone traveled to the Show-Me State for the ‘Academy Awards’ of the amusement industry, bringing back honors to Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Kennywood’s Noah’s Ark attraction was recognized for the ninth straight year as the world’s best Funhouse/Walk-through Attraction at Saturday’s Golden Ticket Awards ceremony, while Idlewild beat out impressive competition to be named Best Children’s Park. The Golden Ticket Awards, held this year at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo., highlight the best of the best in the amusement industry. The international awards are voted on by theme park aficionados and compiled by industry publication Amusement Today.
“Even with big changes happening at Kennywood in 2018, rare and historic rides like Noah’s Ark are critical to our identity,” says Kennywood General Manager Jerome Gibas. “It’s rewarding to see the hard work of our team pay off with recognition from Golden Ticket Awards voters.”
Along with Noah’s Ark, Kennywood’s Phantom Fright Nights was ranked among the Top 5 Best Halloween events in the amusement and theme park world. Kennywood fans can find out why Phantom Fright Nights earned such high marks starting September 28, when the Pittsburgh Halloween tradition begins its 17th season. Both parks conclude their summer operating seasons on September 16, with Idlewild’s Hallowboo event for children beginning Saturday, September 29.
