New Theme Park Planned for Nashville Could Revive Opryland Spirit

Nashville could soon be more than just the home of country music and hot chicken. Stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze is aiming to put Music City back on the theme park map with an ambitious new project: Nateland Theme Park.

Plans are underway for a park spanning roughly 80–100 acres, making it one of the largest entertainment developments in the region since the closure of Opryland USA in 1997.

The project is being driven by Nateland Experiences, a new division of Bargatze’s company focused on immersive ventures like cruises, live shows, and now, theme parks. While the Nashville park will serve as the flagship, Nateland executives have already confirmed discussions with state leaders and investors about launching smaller satellite parks across the U.S. The move signals that Bargatze and his team aren’t just dipping a toe into the industry , they’re diving in headfirst.

For locals, the news stirs up a wave of nostalgia. Many Tennesseans still remember the days of Opryland USA, the beloved theme park that thrilled guests for decades before closing its gates.

Bargatze, who once worked there himself, has floated the idea of redeveloping the original Opryland site, though that would require clearing the mall that now occupies the property.

Whether Nateland rises on Opryland’s historic grounds or a brand-new site, the idea of Nashville once again hosting roller coasters, water rides, and live entertainment has fans buzzing with anticipation.

Unlike Disney and Universal, who lean on blockbuster franchises, Nateland plans to launch with standalone attractions, original rides and experiences not tied to existing IP. However, the long-term vision is to connect future attractions to Nateland’s own film and television projects if those productions take off. Alongside the park, Bargatze is also eyeing the addition of a studio complex in Nashville, turning the site into both an entertainment hub and a production powerhouse.

The project is still in its early stages, with feasibility studies underway and no official groundbreaking date yet. But with major investors, state leaders, and a rapidly expanding entertainment brand behind it, Nateland does have momentum.

Bargatze is no stranger to big stages, he’s headlined sold-out tours, released hit comedy specials, hosted Saturday Night Live, and is set to host the 2025 Emmy Awards. But building a theme park could be his boldest move yet.

As plans move forward, one thing is clear: if Nateland becomes a reality, Nashville could soon reclaim its place as one of America’s top destinations for thrills and family fun. Stay tuned as plans for Nateland take shape, from location details to ride concepts, this project is just getting started.
