Muppets Take Over Disney’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster as Monsters Inc. Land Arrives at Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is set to welcome a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land, bringing fans closer than ever to the world of Mike and Sulley. This highly anticipated expansion will take over the south side of the park and feature a suspended roller coaster that recreates the heart-pounding door vault scene from the hit movie.

In addition to the coaster, guests can expect a variety of new dining options, shopping experiences, and an exciting new theater show. Disney has shared the concept art below with us of the new land.

In order for guests to step into the magical city of Monstropolis, the new Monsters, Inc. land will replace the existing Muppets Courtyard. It’s currently home to “Muppet*Vision 3D” and several dining locations, including Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and PizzeRizzo, which will all close to make way for the new development.

As part of the changes, the Muppets are moving to Sunset Boulevard, where they’ll “take over the iconic Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and team up with some of music’s biggest stars for a new rock ‘n’ roll music festival“. This will be the first Disney attraction to feature the Muppets, with fans anticipating a fun, music-filled experience packed with laughs, new tunes, and Muppets-themed merchandise.

While Disney has shared plans for this major transformation, the company has not yet announced specific closing dates for the beloved MuppetVision 3D show or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. It’s important to note that Disney has not explicitly confirmed the removal of Aerosmith from Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, only that the Muppets will be added to the experience.

The Muppets’ version of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will feature “new tunes,” though Disney has yet to reveal which songs will be included. It’s unclear whether these tracks will come from the Muppets’ own catalog or from the lineup of celebrity musicians set to join the attraction.

Disney has hinted that work is underway to ensure the transformation brings something fresh while preserving the spirit of the classic attractions. In the meantime, visitors can still experience Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and MuppetVision 3D before any changes take place. Disney has reassured fans that they’re exploring ways to preserve iconic parts of the experience for the future, though details are still being worked out.
