Busch Gardens Williamsburg Reveals Unearthed Will Debut at Howl-O-Scream

Theme parks around the world are slowly releasing details about their new Halloween attractions for 2015. Busch Gardens Williamsburg is is kicking off their massive Howl-O-Scream event with more houses and terror than ever before!

For this years Howl-O-Scream, Busch Gardens Williamsburg has joined forces with Robin Cowie, the legendary producer of the 1999 horror film The Blair Witch Project. The award-winning filmmaker has given the darkest corners of his mind to Busch Gardens as the producer and director of Unearthed; Scarletts Revenge, one of three new haunted houses debuting at Howl-O-Scream this year.

“At the end of the day, my job is to make sure that the people who go through are terrified,” Cowie said in a phone interview earlier this week.

Howl-O-Scream features seven haunted houses this year, which is the most the company has ever offered! If that’s not enough, the park is also bringing back a fan favorite with the return of the parks popular Terror-tories that transform Busch Gardens quaint villages into dark and sinister places.

Howl-O-Scream-themed dining options like Blood Banquet, shopping experiences like the parks newest shop, Blood Haus, and live performances like Monster Stomp on Ripper Row are waiting for guests brave enough to explore the park after dark.

The newest attraction at Howl O Screams this year is Unearthed : Scarletts Revenge. The haunt features Scarlett, whose mysterious healing practices made her a target for suspicious townspeople. Fearful of Scarletts dark arts, the townsfolk killed her husband and buried her house deep in the earth until it was discovered by construction crews in Busch Gardens Ireland village. Guests will journey into Scarletts house and experience the splintered labyrinth of horrors and the wrath of this demon scorned.

Cowie and his team spent months working onsite at the park to shoot teaser videos and work on the physical elements of terror for guests to enjoy at this year’s Howl-O-Scream.

In addition to Scarletts Revenge, Howl-O-Scream will feature two other new haunted houses this year called Cornered and also LumberHack.

Cornered: It’s 1977 and a picturesque farming community is in an uproar over the ongoing disappearances of its residents. Each time someone goes missing, an intricate corn husk doll is left behind leading many to suspect local corn-farmer Jasper McCobb. The McCobb farm has fallen into disrepair since the death of Jaspers mother. Could the missing townspeople be somewhere in the maze of maize? Join the search party and find out.

LumberHack: Hikers beware: the woods hold a terrifying secret. More than 50 years ago a logging camp was abandoned after a horrific accident where saws ripped into human flesh instead of tree bark. Tragically, the loggers perished only to inexplicably awaken from death filled with inhuman rage. The undead loggers rampaged until every living thing in the camp had felt the bite of their axes. Now the forgotten lumberjacks lie waiting for unsuspecting campers to stumble into their den of the damned.

The new “LumberHack” attraction will be located in the woods behind the Verbolten roller coaster, an area that has never been used before for park guests.

Lance Mier, special events manager for the Williamsburg park’s entertainment team, said:

“We thought about what we offered — vampires and skeletons and ghosts — and we realized one thing we didn’t have yet was zombies. That opened up all sorts of ideas, and it led us to ‘LumberHacks.’ I think people are going to be really excited to be going into an area we’ve never utilized before.”

With seven haunted houses, five Terror-tories, three live stage shows, themed dining options, shopping experiences and behind-the-scenes tours, there is something for every Howl-O-Scream fan to explore!

Howl-O-Scream opens Sept. 25 and runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Nov. 1. Busch Gardens opens at 10 a.m., but becomes scary at 6 p.m. Guests should consider the parks elevated scare factor when deciding whether Howl-O-Scream is appropriate for young children.
