Abandoned Kings Island Resort Site Sold To New Owners

Over the last few years, many amusement park enthusiasts and locals were curious about the fate of the plot of land where the former Kings Island Resort and Conference Center stood for over 40 years. It now seems there are new developments for the site.

In early 2021 a series of transactions began, starting with an deal between Warren County Holdings and the adjacent Rivers Crossing Church. In January of 2021, the county sold the southernmost plot (7.3 acres) of the site to the church for $2.4 million.

Then, in the middle of April, there were indications of the northernmost plot (10.55 acres) being sold as well. A sale date was noted as July 27th, 2021. It is unknown who may have bought the plot of land, but indications are it may have been the Rivers Crossing Church as well.

The Kings Island Resort originally opened as the Kings Island Inn in 1972. It was one of two hotels that made up the Kings Island complex. The hotel featured over 300 rooms, on-site dining options, conference center, pool, gymnasium, and more. The hotel was featured in both The Partridge Family and The Brady Bunch sitcoms. The resort closed in 2014, and it was announced that apartments were to be built on the former site. The plans for the apartments fell through, and the site has been sitting abandoned since.
