Land Clearing Begins At Kings Island’s Timberwolf Amphitheater
In the summer of 2020, a series of markers were placed around Kings Island that started beside Invertigo and stretched beyond the Timberwolf Amphitheater complex. The discussion of the markers later ceased as it was described by the park as being part of a “utility improvement”.
During this past weekend’s Passholder Previews, work could be observed from the Eiffel Tower. The trees that lined both berms surrounding the Timberwolf had been removed, while extensive land work was visible. The scope of the land work on the north side of the amphitheater ran from the northernmost section to the former monorail maintenance sheds.
Along with the tree removal, paths that ran alongside of the southern berm have been removed The development raised interest due to the Timberwolf being located directly above the ditch where the markers were seen. Furthermore, many of the markers would be in areas of increased run-off, should the park decided to remove the Timberwolf.
This comes as Timberwolf — an entertainment staple at Kings Island since the 1980’s, has seen less usage due to increased competition from nearby entertainment venues such as Riverbend Music Center, and others.
Timberwolf has hosted numerous famous artists such as: Eric Clapton, The Beach Boys, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and even Britney Spears. As of the last few seasons, the venue has hosted the Spirit Song event, which is not planned for 2021.
It’s interesting to note that Canada’s Wonderland, a sister park of Kings Island, has also recently removed map references of their theater known as Kingswood complex.
All the developments at Kings Island begs the question, are the two projects at the park (markers and Timberwolf) related in any way? Could one of these be the long rumored front gate coaster?
